Re: Light cuddy to tow with a Subaru Forester?
Wow, it's the reincarnation of Cotton Mathur and the Salem witch trials!
To all the folks who assume I'm going to ignore all advice and tow a giant trailer, please re-read the thread where I'm looking at light cuddies like the Arima and C-Dory whose weight is under the already conservative 2400 lb American tow rating of my car. I think I saw an older Stingray that was pretty light, too, but I can't find it now. And thanks again for the good advice from some of you.
Now, I take offense at people who accuse me of being cavalier with the safety of my family and other drivers. Before my daughter was born I bought the Subaru because it is one of the safest vehicles on the road. It's good in the snow and rain. It's good in a crash, and it's good at crash avoidance, which is a factor that some people like to ignore.
Let's say I drive 9000 miles per year without a trailer and 50 miles per year on 35 mph surface streets with a small boat. How can someone who drives a big truck the same distance, which has a statistically greater chance per mile to kill both the occupants and other people, possibly feel justified in pointing their finger at me?
That being said, I still support your right to drive anything that is road-legal, even if it increases my own chances of injury or death. Just like I support your right to free speech, even if I don't agree with what you might say.

+1
Capacity ratings exist for a reason. Good reason. Legitimate reason. Reason based on a desire to not kill innocent people.
I don't drive a 3/4 ton truck as my daily driver because I just love buying gas. I drive it bacause it has the capacity to pull and stop my boat. My 1/2 ton didn't, so I bought a different vehicle!
GCWR- check
Tongue Weight - check
Tow Capacity - check
