Lighting coil to charge battery?

I just bought a 8hp Yamaha and it has two unused green wires that the manual says is a lighting coil. I know I would need a rectifier to convert it to DC, if I did this and hooked it to my trolling batt. would it provide enough juice to give the batt. any charge at all?

A mere drop in the proverbial bucket.

the charging system on an outboard is rpm based so the max output is had at max rpm so unless you run it wide open for a good legth of time it won't make much charge and it probably doesn't make that much to begin with.

SO yes you woudl get some charge btu I don't know if ti woudl be enough to justify the expense, get a really big trolling battery and make sure it charged before you go out.
