lighting ?????

seems like i have been assigned a job nobody wants of figuring out how to save the energy cost in a chappel.this thing is set-up way over my head but im learning its got more remote control boxes and dimmer racks in it than ive every seen,and nobody knows how to use the thing,so im trying to learn that too.my first question we have 14 par38 250 watts that are about 30 feet up in the air.so the question is does a halogen,led,and florusent but out the same amount of light at that distance?i know this maybe hard to understand what im asking,im not talking about lumens,the leds are a brighter light but at the same wattage is the light going to be the same?hope ya'll can understand what im asking.

Ron, are talking about stage lighting? If so I might be able to help a little, I do D.J.ing in some clubs and help set up bands at times, but my knowledge of lighting is limited to that...........

I'm not sure what your asking, but the amount of light they put out is measured in lumens. In descending order, yours would be halogen, flourescent, LED. 250w is for the halogen bulbs you currently have in the cans, right? Maybe your questions is would Flour. and LED be brighter if they also consumed 250w? If so yes, but you would defeat the purpose as your energy cost would stay the same. Easiest solution is to replace the bulbs with flourescent bulbs rated at the same # of lumens as your halogen bulbs (if you can find them). They will use considerably less power to produce the same amount of light. Forget about LED's...

Thanks for the info.i think what i was wanting to know is about kelvins but im still researching and doing leg work right now,this is in a huge chappel mostly out of glass and wood.the lighting control system know one knows how to to program or what each circuit actually controls.so there wanting me to learn all this stuff pretty amazing system,can be programed with 300 different scenes:%but i'll figure it out....seems like this is a test run for me to eventually do something like this on all the buildings.

If energy cost is the goal, florescent tubes are more efficient than the par 38 flood lamp or any incandescent bulbs. Using florescent tubes in-conjunction with electronic ballast's even better.

Wattage is the amount of electrical power consumed by an electrical device. In this case a light bulb. It does not indicate the amount of light out put by the particular bulb.

A electronic ballast florescent fixture useses less energy to than any type of bulbs out there while providing the same amount of light out put.

Most Fluorescents don't dimm well if at all, therefore they are not universally interchangeable. Those flourescents that can be dimmed require a special balast & Dimmer combination and the dimming range is very limited.

its a lightolier compli lytemode with clr-2,5,8,45,85,165 remotes with two main dimmer bases and a time clock.its a pretty impressive set-up a lot of tec stuff i dont quite understand yet.

Lightolier has a very nice online lighting training program for free. If the lighting fixtures also are lightolier you might want to check that out and see if there are retrofittable options for exsisting fixtures/design. Sounds like a fun challenge.
