Hi guys!

I need a little help and advice with a coupla things. Motor is a 1970 1150 with a blue band LU.

I'm getting very irratic readings from my stator. Both before and after the rectifier. I'm suspecting a bad earth? Now and then at rpm I get a nice steady 16.8-17.0VAC, but it only lasts for a couple of seconds then it goes all over the place. So with this in mind, how do I remove the flywheel to get to the stator. Do I have to remove the main nut and have a puller made up? Or can I get there by removing the smaller nuts. See pic...

Next question... Lower unit oil. I've see a lot of posts regarding filling the LU. They all state that you fill from the bottom, till it comes out the top. The "bottom" being refered to, is that the drain plug? I think I might's been putting oil through the water pump. I have a black plastic plug screw just behind the level plug for the gear box. I've tried adding oil to both these without much success. Is the back black plug actually into the water jacket? I checked the oil every week for the last 4 weeks, and suddenly today I got milk out of the level plug. Then I removed the black plastic plug and clear water spurted out, alot! That's when I figured the 2 blugs might be into 2 different sections. But the water in the oil needs to be investigated. I removed the trim tab, the red cap nut at the front, and the 2 nuts on the side. And it doesn't budge, what am I missing? Pic included...

Then I just wanna do a bit of bragging... I cracked a fuel pump housing last week-end, and I machined 2 new casings on the CNC at work.

And since my tach suddenly stopped working I thought I might've blown a new rectifier, so I went for a parallel dual rectifier setup.
Merc fan, I just pulled my classic 50 (45hp) flywheel on the weekend.
I unbolted the inner row of top bolts and the centre trigger magnet/crankshaft retainer assembly seperated ok from the flywheel. I suppose you could try undoing yours and see if the flywheel can be removed .If your lucky you will be able to lift the flywheel off, and leave the trigger magnet/retainer assembly still bolted to the crankshaft.
Just dont unscrew the outer bolts as these hold the stator magnets!
In the Pic ofthe underside of my flywhhel, you will see the trigger magnet assmly, it bolts to the crankshaft via the top nut.
It can be separated by undoing the top nuts.
Thanx Rover!

Did it yesterday, worked great! Previous owner or repairman painted the whole stator, hence no earth. Cleaned up the paint and added an extra ring terminal to make sure it'll earth well now.
