I recently bought a boat that was docked for a while (in freshwater) and I have been searching and trying everything I can to remove the build up from my boat, it is like a lime build up and not even the best hull cleaners have fazed it, any help is appreciated i.e personal experience THanks

Re: Lime build up

Some use vinegar to remove those type of stains.

If that doesn't work you can try CLR or some similiar type of bathroom cleaner that is made to remove calcium/lime stains.

Maybe someone else will drop by with some more suggestions.

Good Luck!

Re: Lime build up

1) What is hull material?

2) Are stains above, below or right at the waterline?

My suggestions will differ based on answers to the above.

Product called "On-off". It is a fairly strong acid mixture so use rubber gloves & goggles. Follow label directions & it'll be squeaky clean in short order.

you can use a 50/50 mixture of muratic acid/water. muratic acid is swimming pool acid, wear gloves, and eye protection. also wash off drive way very well.

Re: Lime build up

In my experience, the CLR type products just don't have the doo-dads to remove heavy marine build-up. The On & Off is an industrial-strength product. It has taken horrible stuff off the bottom of my boat that the household cleaners couldn't.
