Link & sync is the process by which the various timing advance and throttle linkages and cams are adjusted to ensure timing advance begins and progresses at the proper rate with throttle opening. Just so you know, that procedure is 12 pages long in a Clymers manual so it must be performed in the exact step by step process. Skip a step or do it wrong and the outcome will be wrong. It's not difficult, just long! Of course the process differs depending on engine and vintage.
