Hello all fellow tin boaters. It’s me again.
I’m putting together a list that will completely finish the boat build at the request of my wife so we can schedule things and I can finish. Smart lady and way to good for me.
Im budget stretching and one of the products I’m comparing is Goop coat it on the bottom and I will paint over it. I know it’s real fun to apply and has to be babysat while curing. I’m thinking of getting a kitchen scale for mixing in batches instead of the whole thing at once and fighting it curing on me.
What type of paint should I use to top it with and do I need to prime over the Coat it?
Since it’ll already be sealed and protected If I didn’t think it would flake off the bottom from friction I’d hit it with good old Rustoleum Instead of expensive bottom boat paint. I’m freshwater only and never leave it in the water. It lives on the trailer until I’m ready.
I’m looking at cost of doing this versus some I’ve found that have a pigment and don’t have to be painted.
Oh I’m replacing the bunks before hand with 2x6on edge (because of the trailer not quiet letting me lower the boat any) sealer on the lumber the carpet. The old bunks are slicks on top should I reuse them or just stay with carpet? They come in handy at some launches.
Thanks again for all yall support and help through this. You have been there from when I discovered I needed to gut the boat and deal with corrosion to the new wiring set up which is working perfectly and not a bit of corrosion yet. I keep it clean and treated. Removed the floor system the other day and it took exactly 23 minutes to remove carpet then plywood (8 screws) then foam board and boom I was looking at the aluminum. The plywood still looks like the day I put penetrating epoxy on it and no corrosion in the bottom of the boat. I vacuumed out dust and a few acorns and put it all back together.
As always I appreciate any input about the paint.
