Just purchased a 17.5ft boat with a 50hp motor. Big upgrade from my Jonboat with no motor. Decided to back the boat up tp the garage door. When backing up the boat, forgot about that big 50HP motor untill i saw the garage door pushing in from the prop !!!!!

During my sailing days, had 26 ft sailboat with 4 friends aboard. Wanted to show them how you backed a sailboat into a slip. Went in perfectly. Then my wife looks at me and says, "Harris you're in the wrong slip.<br /><br />Came into my slip forward with another sailboat, 36ft with a bowsprit. Had just read in Sail Magazine a better and easier way to dock in your slip. Article says to turn to port just before backing. Didn't seem quite right but I did so and in the process my bowsprit took out the main water line to the dock where many liveaboards were docked. It was labor day weekend, so no water for 3 days. Boy was I popular. Oh yeah, Sail Magazine had a retraction the next issue. They meant turn to starboard not port.<br /><br />Over time, I've lost a few cell phones to the deep so I thought I'd be safe and put the new one in my back pocket. A friend of mine who was up the mast, dropped my wind and direction vane down for me to catch. It slipped out of my hands and I jumped up to get it. As I came down, my butt brushed against the safety lines and the lines pushed my new cell phone, you guessed it, into the blue along with the item I was trying to catch. Are there no safe places for a cell phone on a boat?

Launching a boat off a trailer and forgetting to undo the bow line from the wench, and watching the wrench handle buzz around uncontrollably, sure makes you feel like an idiot...<br /><br />Belchy

Dave 524 you're not alone. My folks had a 1/2 inch wide by 6" long slit in their garage door from me backing their 140 Johnson a little too close. I finally repaired it when I got older..

The first one is too dangerous stupid to be funny: <br /><br />Was distracted when hooking up trailer and forgot to throw the ball lock. The trailer unhooked itself on the speed bump 100 feet away fortunately instead of on the freeway. Learned the real reason we use safety chains too. <br /><br />beach boat then go back for keys, cell, wallet, find boat drifting off sand bar but not far...right? Wrong. Jumped off bow into 5 foot deep water. Ruined cell phone.

Leaned over to grab a fish and my new cell phone in my shirt pocket decided to take a swim.

Didn't unhook trailer chains after parking. Put a hole in the bumper cover and broke the little tab that keeps the retainer nut from turning. Back in 99 down at the beach, we backed onto the beach during low tide to load a jet ski. New ford explorer got horribly stuck with tide coming back in (I was on the ski and held no (ok little) responsibility). At the last moment before totaling out the explorer, we located a tow truck with a 300' cable to pull us out (him being local knew not to even come near the beach. This after attempts with up to 20 amused onlookers trying to push and rock us out. On top of that, we had to go home to dinner with our wives 3 hours late. Could have been much worse.<br /><br />Oh, also, leaving the boat keys at the lake and driving 60 miles home with boat to repair shop.
