Eagle Lake in Northern California. Native rainbows average 2 to 4 pounds. Hectic during the summer, but slows down in fall.

Yellowstone lake. Great cutthroat and lake trout fishing. Fabulous scenery. 135 sq. miles and maybe 10 other boats. Lake Pend Orielle in northern Idaho. Same size, just more boats. 1,100 ft. deep.

Lake Pend O'reille, 45,000 square acres, 1100 feet deep, but then I live on it so I am a bit biased...

Camo, you are right, there are a few boats, but the trick is to be out on it before noon. After noon, all the out-of-towners are out exhibiting their poor boating skills. The beauty of it is before Memorial Day and after Labor day the lake has dramatically less boats, because the summer people are gone....

Crystal Lake in Ellington Ct, It's a trophy trout lake and a nice place to just ski or swim and it's 15 minutes from where I live.

Gunflint lake, Minnesota. Up on the border. Can access lakes on both sides of the border and if on an extended trip can do a good trip into the quantico region of Canada.
Early spring or late fall for the die hards. In between that for the family.

I travel 124 miles each way to St. Joseph, Mi. to cruise Lower Lake Michigan. Land Locked in Ft. Wayne, the best inland Lake is Coldwater, in Coldwater, Mi. (I've got to move!!!) :(

I will have to say I live between two of the greatest lakes anywhere. Dale Hollow and Centerhill. In the middle of the week you can go out all afternoon and see maybe a dozen boats on the water.

I'm going to say Lake Michigan, if only for the fact that it is one of the premier Smallmouth Bass fisheries in the USA. : )

Gull Lake, Minnesota... but it's quickly becoming over-commercialized!
