I'm just a cadet, but Lake Powell (Utah/Az) is AWESOME, my kids would rather go there than Disneyland, another neat place is Bear Lake in Idaho/Utah, also a great place for kids.
For fishing, try Flaming Gorge on Utah/Wyo border.

Lake Powell, There is nothing like it in the world. Gets crazy at Wahweap Marina in the summer, especially on weekends. Much better if you drive your boat a days travel north. Everybody gets their own cove and privacy overnight, lots of shoreline ,weird canyons to boat into, sandy beaches, awsome scenery, no mosquitos. Nicest season; September, early October. Water clean , clear. Hot in summer. Houseboats are popular($$$).
Batavier

Lake Pend Oreille in Sandpoint, Idaho,

Moosehead Lake in Maine. Very similar, large rough, and nice places to be.

I do 90% of my boating on Lake Erie and it is one of my favorites but my favorite boating lake has to be Lake Huron. I will cruise up there any time I get the chance. Will be heading up to the straits again in 2005 and along with several other boats will be cruising the North Channel and the 30000 islands next year. Some boating organizations consider the north channel among the top 5 boating places in the world. I will get to find out next year if all goes well.

Well on the West coast I like the North end of Lake Chelan. The lake covers 62,000 acres, 50 miles long and less than 2 miles wide. Third deepest lakes in the U.S. 1,500 feet deep. The Glacier carved Stehekin Valley is the deepest gorge in North America and is surrounded by peaks in excess of 9,000 ft.

On the north shore there is a Small ghost town that has been restored to a Vacation Spot. No TV and just one pay phone.

Some of the best fishing in the U.S. in the surrounding lakes which are feed by 27 glaciers and 57 creeks. Fly fish for native trout silver Salmon and cut throat.

Did I say that you can go all day without seeing anyone after leaving the resort.

Take a Look! http://www.ladyofthelake.com/

Ho Ho Ho The old Playboy club is MILES from Lake Geneva! Hefner added nothing except a sometimes snowy ski slope and some fine golf courses. \Of course, you are correct, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin is a jewel. Crystal clear water; too many boats; great fish to be caught if you can... ( I like Delavan lake.. nearby) RichG TX

A clear spring fed lake with wonderful places to anchor, and swim, waterski, etc. Fun little towns and good places to eat.

Since Hugh left it hasn't been quite as beautiful!! ;)

It has to be Flathead Lake in northwestern Montana. Deep, clear, and pretty much unspoiled. I also love Georgian Bay in Canada!

SW Colorado, Navajo and Vallectio, within an hour of each other, you could be in either a High Mtn lake surrounded by 13,000' peaks or in the desert , similar to Powell without the crowds.

New member here...

My favorite lake is Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. I know alot of people think it is overcrowded but there is so much to do there all year round. I recently bought a condo in Laconia and spend many weekends there and the off-season offers so much to do without the in-season crowds.

-Powell is great, it is truly is beautiful with lots of fish! We try to go each May.

-Pend Orielle, is beautiful and big - I duck hunted on it but have not fished on it, Couer d' Alene is great for fishing and boating.

-Lake Superior is increadible-big, very wild (remote), with lots of big fish, many bays and connected waterways, lots of wild life - we will be there again for 2 weeks this year. Its best in July or August-Isle Royale is incredible- we will try to go again from my moms house this summer - weather permiting, its a long run, almost 60 miles of open water.

I also like Lakes; Yellostone, Cumberland, Tahoe, Lake of the Woods...

Hopefully we will get to Flaming Gorge and Elephant Butte this year, with the "new" boat each should be about an 8 hour drive-really quite close to home, almost in our back yard compared to some of the others.

Wet Dog,
I am selling a place on the Platte river in Honor 5 miles from Crystal Lake. The lake was opend up to lake Michigan years ago that created
the nice sandy beach in Beulah when the water level droped due to opening it up to the big lake. Been swimming there for 35 years. :)
