Bought my new boat, and asked the previous owner if it had a sst prop. He said no. It is painted black so I didn't think twice.<br /><br />Ordered a shiny new Ballistic 14.5X19 SST prop, got it Wednesday. Went out and pulled the old prop off the boat and thought to myself "Self, this prop sure feels pretty heavy for aluminum". <br /><br />Got to wondering, so I checked the number stamped on the hub on google, and sure enough, this boat new came with an OMC 14.5X19 SST prop. <br /><br />DUH!<br /><br />At least I have a spare now. The ballistic blades are shaped differently and are a little smaller, and the ballistic is a lighter prop, so it will be interesting to see the difference if any in performance. Not $300 worth of interesting, but oh well! At least the ballistic looks better too. Just trying to make the best of this here!<br /><br /> :D

I really thought you were gonna say you hit the rock"<br /><br />Old boat - new motor, (8 hrs use) + unfamiliar territory + tidal movement of 6 metres.<br /><br />Result: new prop + old rock = old prop. <br />Luckily only just pruned the tips. We had 15 km of open water and some reasonable winds to get home.

Re: Listen to this!

Hey, you did good. If the seller knew the prop was stainless, he might have tried to up the price a couple of hundred bucks for having it on there.<br /><br />One more thing:<br />"I'm an idiot" is pretty harsh. <br /><br />In fact, 'idiot' is a rather ugly word. It would be nice if we didn't have to use it again. Could we perhaps substitute it with 'missunderstood'? <br /><br />har, har, har,,,,,,,,

OK then I'm misunderstood. :) <br /><br />The performance with the ballistic went right down the toilet but that's for another thread. :( Back to my OMC SST.

Dunaruna, I'm from Darwin now. Was in Colac & then Maryborough before heading for fishing (& rock) country 4 years ago. <br />Where in Melbourne are you?<br />I was coming up on here as "Capt Joe" but somehow I lost that in the airwaves.

I remember 'Capt Joe'! <br /><br />I'm in the outer east of Melbourne, little town called Mooroolbark (aboriginal for 'Red Earth')<br /><br />How you handling the climate difference from Central Vic to Darwin? I hear it sends people loopy in the wet season  but the fishing the best.<br /><br />Aldo

Sorry, it took so long to respond to your question re - going loopy in the "wet" season.

Best fishing is in the "Build-up" (when the weather is extremely humid for weeks on end, but very little rain - Sept & Oct.) and during the "run-off" (when the flood waters are running off the flood plains into the main rivers - April & May)

It takes a while, but you eventually learn which rivers will be running & how long after the last rains.

EG The Adelaide River was fishing well 7-10 days after the township was flooded.

The Daly takes 3-4 weeks after the rains in Arnhem Land - It flows down the Katherine into the Daly.

Daly river was 11.5 metres deep over the crossing on Thursday before Easter, went 70km down stream (& back against the floods) for no fish at all. By the Sunday the crossing was only 8.5 metres deep. Did catch one barramundi 27 km upstream from the camp.

Hopefully, it will be fishing better next week for the Barra Nationals.

Loopy from the weather - they do call it the "Suicide Season". Me? I now wouldn't live anywhere else. At least I know what tomorrow's weather will be like - same as last week, perhaps a bit drier.

Just to really rub it in - we've had 1503 mm of rain so far this year - including 85mm in an hour a couple of weeks ago.
