Good Morning,
I have an 1802 Bayliner. When on plane, the boat wants to turn left and leans left. The degree is such that if there are three people, two of them must always stay to the right and the steering wheel must be held. How can I correct this?

If you've got a Torque Tab on the bottom of the Anticavatation plate,...
Shift it to the Other Direction.......

Knowing More about the boat,+ driveline Might Help........

Turning the little rudder thingy in the other direction to the pull will make it worse, need to turn the trailing edge of the fin towards the pull. Unless I'm wrong, in which case totally ignore this post

And remove the doel fin if you have one. They amplify listing.

Aldo

I belive you need to move the motor trim tab to the left. Either way takes less than 5 miuntes to adjust so take a wrench that fits and adjust. Make a run and adjust until you get it right.

Adjust the trim tab TRAILING EDGE in the direction of the pull.

I know it sounds backwards, trust me.

Ok, I'm lost here. I thought the trim-tab acted like a little mini-rudder. If the boat wants to veer left, turning the trailing edge of the trim-tab to the left will kick the stern more to the right which will accentuate the left veer. If this is wrong, help me understand.

No it won't. It'll try and move the motor itself to the right, which will lessen the left-pull tendency.

If the pull is really severe, there are other factors to examine also. Plenty of expertise here to advise on them.

Re: Listing Left and Turning

THe steering tab helps adjust for the rotaion torque of the prop. The prop can also cause a list to port (torque List. The tab is easily adjusted and should show a change immediately at nearly any speed. The torque list will only occur when on plane at cruising speeds. Too much stern lift / bow presure will push the keel inot the water too much and exagerate the torque list. This can be caused by the motor trim being too far down, or extra lifting devices which push the stern up and the bow down such as hydrofoils. Make sure you trim the motor outwhen on plane (obviously to the best running position and not just to get rid of the torque list. If you have a hydrofoil and can not trim the motor our to bring the bow up enough, get rid of the hydrofoil and see if that does the trick. This is a common side affect to the hydrofoil installation.

Hydrofoils lift the boat from the center and more than they should after the boat is on plain which will cause this problem. If you wish to add more stern lift inorder to plane easier and at lower speeds then do so with trim tabs that can be adjsuted or that self adjust (Smart Tabs). These will lift from both sides at the same time and improve Hole Shot as well as stability.
