Most comments have somewhat confirmed my suspicion that the bondo, 'hooks', blobs, globs, goobers are the problem. As mr 88 commented, will start with removing the port bondo hook and take it one step at a time from there. Other than the bondo modifications the hull is in good condition. Has it's gravel rash & battle scars from river use that can use some gelcoat/filler in places. Nothing else, guess my post got to expose others to a different type of 'normal' boat setup. Thank you for thoughtful comments/suggestions.

I’ve been around boats my whole life and have never seen a boat design anything like that. I can’t imagine any advantage of any kind for a design like that. I only see major disadvantages to a boat like that. What ever type of fishing you do there are lots of boat designs that would be far better than that. I’m not trying to give you a bad time I’m just saying that boat isn’t the best option for anything and has zero versatility. I’ve done every type of fishing imaginable on all different waters and can’t see where that would be the boat I’d choose for anything. There’s a zillion better options. If it were me I’d sell that boat or if I couldn’t sell it id haul it to the dumps and keep the motor. Anyway good luck with what ever you decide.

Shared the pic with the naval architects at work. They also have not seen a hull like that. They said they would expect it list as it comes on plane due to the very skinny port sponson

They design flats cats that can plane in 1" of water, however the hulls are symmetrical

The transom view of this boat looks photoshopped. I've never seen anything like it before, but that happens a lot as I explore more.

Have you thought about trying a bolt on hydrofoil for the cavitation plate? It would be considerably less involved than trying to get a trim tab in there. Just my 2cents

Seems a few people know this type of boat with unusual hull cutout section are/were built (trout fishing boats?). Some have said designed for engines between 9.9 and 40hp. I wonder if this particular boat was designed for an engine toward the lower end of that 9.9>40hp rating scale and if designed for 2 stroke weight rather than 4 stroke weight? Also wonder if the balancing weight (driver) is supposed to be further forward on the starboard side not close to the stern... And if it was designed to plane at all or the cutout to allow the prop to be higher so it can run in shallow water but at the expense of not being able to plane properly.

The ones I saw online were out of Arkansas. About 20' like this one, offset outboard (with weird tunnel offset) ... about 30HP on some of them.

I'll be honest: I don't get how they work. But, some are legit built that way.

Those additions to the stern underneath could be a issue. Maybe they aren't letting the bow rise enough to expose the tunnel and instead the tunnel is sucking the hull down the faster you go. Sounds like your already removing them though it'll be interesting to see how it works out.
