Anyone know of a website that converts or easy way to convert liters back to cubic inches. I am afraid I am not quite liter knowledgeable.....i.e. I know what a 351W is but when you start talking liters I have no idea how big an engine is....

Re: Liter versus Cubic Inches

GM 305 and 307 were listed as 5 litre engines so a rough conversion would be 1 litre = 61 cu in. 305/5 = 61

GM called the 350 a 5.7, Ford called the 351 a 5.8, Dodge called the 360 a 5.9

Re: Liter versus Cubic Inches

a liter is equal to 1000cc (cubic centimeter);
1 inch = 2.54 centimeter.
therfore, 1 cubic inch = 2.54^3 cubic centimeter;

so basically: liter / .016387 = ci
example --> 5.7L / .016387 = 347.8ci
but since the engine was designed in cubic inches: 350ci*.016387 = 5.7L
that's why 351 = 5.8L (it's rounded up since the math comes out to be 5.752ci)
now try it with 360ci....5.9L

Re: Liter versus Cubic Inches

This was always an easy one for me. Back in 1969, while in high school, I bought a really sweet 66 Ford Galaxie 7 Litre. Ice blue metallic with 428 engine, bucket seats, auto on the floor. Man... Anyway, later on when this litre thing came along I remembered it and divided 428 by 7 and thought .... hmmm...a litre must be about 61 cubic inches.
If I still had the car in the shape it was in then, I could probably trade it for a pretty nice boat. Sadly, I see the remains of it sitting in a fence row belonging to the guy I sold it to. He drove it several years then parked it. I wandered over a few years back to check it out, but it's well beyond my means to restore.
sorry for the hijack.......

61 x Liters = Cubic Inches

Cubic Inches/61 = Liters

I think Ford used 4.9 for their 300 cu.in. inline 6.
