I have a 1995 Seaswirl 185E; the original owner upgraded the motor option from the 4.3liter to larger heavier 5.0 liter. I was wondering if there is anything that can be done to add stern buoyancy without compromising performance and handling. It sits really low while stopped and sitting in the water.

Only thing you can do to add bouyancy is alter the outside shape of the hull to displace more water. Not really practical.

A 5.0 with an alpha weighs 950 pounds, a 4.3 weighs 850 pounds. The difference in engine weights is like a little kid standing on the back of your boat. It shouldn't be making much difference.

1 cubic foot of water is 62 pounds, so your boat has to displace an extra 1.5 cubic feet of water. If the boat is 6' wide, then the back 2 feet of the boat would be 1.5 inches deeper in the water.

That 1.5 inches is the price you pay for the bigger motor.

100 pounds should not affect the level the boat rides in the water that much, you need to start looking for some other problems as Bob suggested..
