Hello All,

After removeing my lower unit to replace my water impeller, I noticed a couple of small parts on the ground (see attached pics). I'm needing a little help figuring out what/where these 2 (two) parts are/go.

Is the small metal part in the first 3 images the "shift rod shaft". The piece seems to fit into the opening at the top of the "lower shift rod", Again, refer to the pictures.

The piece in the last 2 images appears to be a seal. Is this the seal for the "lower shift rod"?

Lastly, in which direction should the rubber impeller blades curve?

Thanks in advance - Open Waters

The pin is the shift rod link. It joins the upper shift rod to the lower. Without it you will not be able to shift.

The rubber is a water pump seal. It goes in a groove inside the top of the plastic pump. It is relatively loose fitting and I don't think it does too much.

Impeller blades should bend counterclockwise so that they are facing backward when the engine is turning clockwise when viewed from above. --Not to worry if they are wrong. As soon as you crank the engine they will flip to the correct orientation.

So the pin in the pictures is supose to be inserted in the hole atop the lower shift rod? Do you have an illustration? As always Frank, you save the day (or at least my day). Thanks again.

Frank - Do you have an illustration that shows how the shift rod link (pin) joins the upper and lower shift rods?
