Live Well - Storage Box Discharge 1700 Fisherman

As a new Lund owner (2002 1700 Fisherman), I have a number of questions. Here's the first one. Under the rear kick-up seats are two chambers (aluminum boxes). The right (starboard) one is obviously the live well. What is the purpose of the left one (port side)? This appears to be a storage box for "stuff" and has a drain line that discharges into the bilge area of the bottom of the boat. This seems odd for two reasons, 1) why doesn't the discharge line connect to the live well discharge live that exits the lower transom area right next to the port box discharge, and 2) if this box is designed for cold storage (I assume the drain is intended to drain melted ice), why isn't it insulated?

I think I want to connect the drain line of the port box to the live well. Is that a problem? By making this connection, it will keep the port box water discharge (ice melting) from entering the bilge area in the bottom of the boat.

Any comments are welcome.

The drain on the storage box is to remove whatever water leaks into there. It isn't a cooler. Trust me, it will get in there, and the only way to remove it, without a drain, is with a wet dry vac, or a sponge, or a portable pump or something. Simpler with just a plug. It is not drained out the back, as it usually doesn't have 20 gallons that get drained after every use. A storage box will rarely have more than a quart.

The livewell is drained out the back, as it is made to constantly have 20 + gallons of water drained after a trip. Though a couple gallons is fine, you don't want 20 to 40 gallons in your bilge.

I have a 2001 Fisherman 1700. The port side compartment is for a cooler. I have a Coleman that just fits. It has a small door on top of the main cooler door. Go through the top access of that compartment and into the cooler for your favorite beverage or to grab your nightcrawlers.
