Livewell Leak :(

I got my first skeeter, and man am I pleased. Its a 1981 starfire 16' with a 150 Evinrude, and this thing looks AMAZING!

It being 26 years old, it does come with a few issues though. I've finally got the motor acting pretty good, and am beginning to trust it a little, and now I'm beginning to work the kinks out of the boat.

To the problem. I've noticed the boat takes on a lot of water. Up until today I thought it was the backwash I was getting when stopping from a high speed(I was raised on jon boats that didn't have this problem), but then I started putting 2 and 2 together. I had some water in my back 2 livewells when i pulled it out of the lake(yes, it backwashed that far a couple of times), so I pulled the plugs to drain them one at a time. The first livewell drained out of one of the holes in the back of the boat. The other drained into the bottom of the boat  Today (a couple of days later) I realized...if that hose isn't connected down there, I'll bet water is coming right up that tube into my boat. So now my issue...How do I get to the other side of my twenty something gallon gas tank to reconnect that hose? It seems to me the only way to do it is to take out that gas tank(which is full right now), and i REALLY don't feel like doing that. Is there an easier way?

I plan to put a spare plug in the drain hole in the back of the boat tonight as a temporary fix so I can go fishing and not use the livewells.

I'm still way pleased with my skeeter tho, and am sure that I will either get all of these little bumps worked out or get really good at fixing them.

I had that problem.. Got to pull the gas tank. While you're there you can clean the bilge, replace the hoses and freshen up those electrical connections to the livewell pumps and the more important bilge pump. Screwdriver does most of the work. Really not that bad a job long as it is not hot!

Re: Livewell Leak :(

Well, I temporarily fixed it, but now i've loss the use of my livewells. I just removed the hose from the drain in the back of the boat and plugged the hole with a livewell plug. It took a little "engineering" to get the livewell plug big enough. I just use the back livewells for storage now, but thats mainly what I used them for anyways so no biggie. When it cools down (I live in Arizona) I'll go for the quality fix.

I'm assuming I'll have to remove the plate that the back chair sits on in order to get the gas tank out. Is this correct?
