Lobster Boat Transport Question

Last weekend I was up exploring in York County, Maine. A lot of lobster boats are still in the water and I saw a few out working even though the weather was crappy, to say the least. However, as I was exploring some of the country roads I noticed that many homes had large (38' - 45') lobster boats sitting in their yards on stands and blocks for the winter.

How are these boats transported and more importantly, how do they get them off and on the trucks in people's side yards? Many of these boats are as large or larger than the homes they are sitting next to!

Incidentally, these guys that still are out there lobstering are tough as nails!

I thought they just waited for one of their 20foot high tides and simply "Sailed" her home :)

Sorry, I couldn't resist....

Nav

Chuck,
I vacation in Maine and have seen what you are describing. My Dad's old 38'footer is in his yard here as well. They use a specially designed/low slung trailer with chocks/blocks/stands.Actually it is a tractor trailer(18 wheeler)big rig.The trailer is usually oversize depending upon boat size. With the use of hydraulic jacks, each portion of the boat is raised/lowered where needed. The boat would be raised/blocked up and jack moved forward/backward as the trailer was incrementally moved forward/back from underneath. It's a slow, balancing act process.
