Lobster tail smelled like ammonia

[NO WHINERS]

Wifey brought home 2 lobster tails from the market that were frozen...I thawed them and broiled them and one smelled normal but one smelled like ammonia...I ate the normal one (LOL) and wife ate part of the smelly one...So far were doing o/k...Any ideas on this???

When I cook I never let the wife have the "bad one" of anything, I man up and take that one.

As for the smell, Chef Lee says it was bad:

The tail stays mushy after being cooked.
It doesn't firm up.
The tail firms up but falls apart easily.
It has an ammonia odor.

When I was about 22 yrs old,I had one in a restaurant that was mushy and tasted like a dirty dish rag. When I complained,the waitress asked me if I ever had lobster before!! I almost got up and left,but settled for a steak instead. Never went back to that place.

Not lobster, but I got some fresh eastern oysters that were bad. Took them back and got my money.
As mentioned, don't eat bad stuff, take it back.

This goes for any shell fish if you think its gone bad don't eat it.But i think that is common knowledge.

Yeah me too, my wife says I could eat road-kill and not get sick. She's had food poisoning 3-4 times and I didn't even get an upset stomach, we ate the same thing...

In restaurants we never eat anything off the special board menu as its mostly made up food that is about to spoil. Some restaurant owners push the limits a little to far.

Anyway...Wife is fine...I have the remains of the lobster tail and some of the meat frozen and plan to return it with receipt....First time I have had that happen but I guess it is not thet uncommon...Lobster season starts here in Cali pretty soon so maybe it will be fresher...Not sure where this lobster was from...

For goodness sake, never, I mean never, let the wife eat anything that smells like ammonia......unless you got a healthy life insurance policy.
