Locating a table on a Montery 220

Hi Folks,

I have a 2008 Montery 220 and want to install a small, deck-mounted table that I can store when not in use. I understand that the table base will have to be mounted to the deck, which of course will mean drilling into the deck itself, and that's where I get nervous. Does anyone have any experience with locating a table base to a Monterey 220, and if so, where did you locate it? Did you go with a flush-mounted, recessed type base? Or did you go with one that just gets screwed into the deck and sticks up slightly?

I have contacted Montery and asked them, but so far no reply, so thought I'd throw this question out on the forum and see if anyone can offer any advice. Thanks everyone!

Any reason you want a deck mounted table ? I installed a side mount on our boat, and it is much nicer
than a floor mount IMO.

Expense, plain and simple. The side mounts I've looked at are all pretty spendy, and I'm not willing to pay what they're asking. That's all.

Okay. your choice. Monterey used garelick tables and mounts, you can get them all here on iBoats. None of them are exactly cheap.

I would get the flush mount table base, as anything that stuck up would tend to be a toe-breaker. Drilling into the deck is not so bad with a hole saw and then just seal the edges with epoxy, etc. you will have to look at the space below deck to see if there is about 2-3" of clearance in the area where you want the table.

Post some picture of the below deck area as viewed from the engine compartment forward. If I can find a picture of the table base on my boat, I will add it to this post. . .

Here is a view of the flush table mount base from my boat . . . you'll need a few inches of clear space below deck for the base and screw projection.

If you don't have the clear space and have to go into the stringer box, then it gets tricky . . .

Thanks tpen and Slip. The pic really helped. The Monterey guy called and told me the dimensions and thickness of the deck and now I have a plan. Based on the great advice I got from you guys, along with the info from Monterey, I'm definitely going with the flush mount. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything lurking under the floor there like a wire bundle or something, and now that I'm assured there isn't, just gotta get a hole saw and drill away!

Very cool to get the reference Slip! Most people go "huh?" about using that name. Or if you mention the source, they only know Frank from his "comedy" songs and have NO idea that the man was a genius, and one of the great American composers of our time.

As far as Crab Island is concerned, that's our backyard, and we love going there, until the tourists show up in rental pontoons, and then it's time to go places only local boaters know about. Crab Island in April, May, September, and October is absolute heaven. June, July, and August? We avoid it like the plague. Too many drunk tourists in rental pontoons smashing into each other for my liking. You want to experience pure boating "comedy gold"? Go to Crab Island during the height of the tourist season. It'll make you wonder how they ever get back to the dock in one piece.
