Location of fuel filters on 1979 OMC 140

I think I have a fuel delivery problem. The engine doesn't start up until I've cranked the starter for awhile, and I can usually smell when the gas reaches the engine. Without a primer pump I'm guessing I just have to wait for the fuel pump to pull the fuel through to the engine? Where would I find any fuel filters that might be clogged?

Thanks,
Scott

There's a paper filter in the bowl of the fuel pump itself & a screen filter in the carb as well.

I just got done rebuilding the carb on my OMC 140 (2bbl Rochester 2GC) and tuned it and it made a world of difference in running.

Also, there's a screen in the pickup inside the tank that might be full of gunk as well.

There should be a USCG mandated anti siphon valve attached to your fuel tank.

I have seen these go bad and/or get plugged in the past and cause a restriction.

I have read that these ant siphon valves are located inside the pickup tube, correct? I think I've also seen several people suggest replacing the entire pickup system. Would that be the best way to go about that?
