Sorry, but the boat is in another state right now, but it's a 40hp 1992 Evinrude on a Tracker...does anyone know where the voltage regulator is on that motor? I haven't a clue what one looks like?

Hi, Jack. (no pun intended).

You really need a repair manual. You can get an aftermarket manual here (click on Repair Manuals at the bottom) Or you can get one from a JohnnyRude dealer.

Good luck. :)

Re: Location of voltage regulator on engine

Your motor may or may not have a regulator. If you know that you have this option it is a finned module on the right side of your motor. If you do not have a regulator the rectifier is a triangular module without fins. To find either one simply follow the two yellow leads comming down below the flywheel assembly to either one of the modules. The output of either module is a red lead going eventually to the battery. It also has a grey lead that goes to the tachometer.
