lock on mercruiser outdrive

i just noticed that i have a lock on my outdrive. i purchased boat at end of boating season and has been in garage since. called owner and he dosnt have it.[key] any big deal getting off? or will simple visegrips do the job? thanks ken

i got mine off with visegrips not to much trouble

thanks man.. i emailed the place where boat was bought orginally hoping they maybe will have one

worst case scenario is you have to weld a nut to it.

don do they all have the same keyed lug?


As far as I can tell they are. Never seen a different one.

Which brings up another point. If they are all the same, I would bet a thief knows that too.

i was thinking the same thing! only keeps the inocent from stealing. thanks ken

i had the same problem, took a picture of the pattern and sent it to mcguard, they sent me a key for 17.00 (it took a couple of times to get the right one, so i think they may have made a handfull of different patterns)
