Locked keys in the truck on the ramp.

I once backed the boat into the water and as I was getting out, I pushed the door lock with my elbow. Being on the incline the door shut while the engine was running. My wife was already out and had locked her door. The nearest phone was up the hill and a mile away. There I am, the boat and trailer in the water, truck running, and nowhere to go. There's nothing in the boat to get into the truck with. Fortunately a guy pulls up and has a flathead screwdriver. I found out just how easy it is to get into a sliding rear window. I now always roll my window down before I launch.

I hate it when that happens!<br /><br />Two ideas might prevent a reoccurrance. Put spare boat keys on your keychain for the times you forget to take your boat keys along, and put spare truck keys on your floating keychain for accidents such as you had.<br /><br />I was out with the family and my 18 month old daughter decided to see if her Mom's new glasses would float. Lost a house key that day, too. Must've also been a "float test" victim.

welcome, fisher! I always roll my window down, too. Locked mine on the ramp once last winter - crawled out the back hatch onto the trailer to drive the boat off & forgot about the car locking itself whenever you put it gear. Luckily I had left the hatch open so I just had to wade through ankle-deep 40 degree water to get in.<br /><br />One thing I always do if I have to leave the car unattended on the ramp is put a chock behind the wheel on the driver's side. It's got a short rope attached for convenience - I just open the door on the way up the ramp and pull it in.<br /><br />Last summer I jumped in the lake for a swim forgetting I had my glasses on. I came up, wife said, "you had your glasses on." "No, I didn't, I took 'em off." As usual she was right! Couldn't stand buying another pair of $500 bifocals so now I just have contacts. <br /><br />jtw

Fisher, Imagine if you didn't have a sliding rear window and the tide was rising fast?

Yeah, I don't think that the Lake Palestine(TX) tide was rising, but it was a sinking feeling none-the-less. I've never boated in the ocean, so I can't imagine dealing with that. Hey Tex, where do you boat around Arlington?

Fisher, I go to Joe Pool a lot, mostly out of convenience; still looking for LMB there. Went to Lake Arlington Sat. morning for the first time. Also Texoma & Richland Chambers. Got my first boat last October & I'm looking forward to fishing Ray Roberts & Lake Fork this year.
