A lock on the coupler and take off the trailer tires. That's not an easy (read heavy) motor to take off, taking the whole rig is easier. But if someone want's it, it's gone no matter what you do.

If someone can manage to carry the 400# motor, they can probably find some cordless saws to cut out the transom.

Ya could hook up a simple float switch,in a location that when the boat is messed with,it triggers the boat horn. Did that on my old boat when someone stole my gas can. Rigged it to the can on a switch, the horn went off about a week later, the can was still there but moved out of its spot! Never had any trouble since!

Ha... I like that!

As far as someone stealing the engine, I just can't see it happening (at least not without the rest of the boat attached). If you have a stainless prop maybe take that off when not in use.

Motor that size is not slipped off the back and into someone's trunk. Protect the outfit. Hitch lock and a wheel missing is a great discourager.

If a thief wants your engine, they will get it no matter what you try. HOWEVER: If you are in the woods with another guy and a bear happens by, you don't need to run faster than the bear, just faster than the other guy.

Moral: Simply make it easier for a thief to steal another engine or rig. Simple locks and countermeasures as mentioned above work well.
