Loctite propshaft seals or not? And what is Loctite type "A"?

Just got the real OEM manual for my '89 Mariner 25hp EL 2 stroke and it seems to say apply Loctite type "A" onto the new prop shaft seals' OD's when pressing into the lower unit.

Is this absolutely necessary, and what is Loctite type "A" anyway? I have Loctite red, Loctite blue and Loctite 680, but can't find any reference to "Type A"

Thanks!

type A (old military designation) is a sealant similar to permatex #3 (also known as aviation sealer). its a non-hardeing sealer.

remember, Henkel (loc-tite) does sealers as well as retaining compounds, cyanoacrylates, solvents, etc.

I have a local mom and pop auto parts store that stocks the #3. Never saw it in a big box store but never looked. Great stuff to have in the shop for setting cork gaskets among many other high performance sealer requirements.

I try to have most sealants on hand because you never know when you will need it. to that end, I have a plastic tote at home with 7 different henkel retaining and sealing compounds, permatex #1, #2, #3, RTV ultra copper and ultra black, and the grey for water-pumps and hoses, silicone o-ring lube, generic personal lube (best for for impellers), 3 different greases in tubs, a small jar of vaseline (used to use it to hold bearings in 2-stroke cages during assembly), oil and grease based assembly lubes, a few cans of brake cleaner, a few cans of carb cleaner, copper based anti-sieze, moly based anti-sieze and at least one tube of tef-gel. I have another tote full of auto and marine gear lubes, chassis grease guns, etc. a tote full of various rattle cans of paint.
