my splitter made by Central Hydraulics is acting up it started running real slow (not the moter but the ram) I topped off the tank and tried it again. Now it wont go down at all, I cracked the fittings at the top of the ram thinking that it had to bleed air off still no good what am I missing here? this thing is new and has only split about 6 cords of wood.

,

Re: log splitter trouble

Jim, first make sure the drive bushing between the motor and pump is ok.If it is bad the pump may be turning slow or not turning at all. Then you could try cracking a fitting between the pump and valve assembly. do this with the motor off and then start it up but be careful, wear safety glasses, and be ready to shut it off before it builds too much pressure. If you get a oil bath the pump is most likely good.Tighten that fitting and loosen a fitting on the other side of the valve assembly the same way.you get the picture.

LMAO @ LubeDude

Did some more checking to day and found that there is pressure from the pump ( what a mess ) The handle on the valve will move and lock into the return position but will not move down past neutral to drive the ram down.

Now what ?

Re: log splitter trouble

I guess its repair or replace the valve. I've never had one apart so I won't be much help. Most tractor parts stores should be able to help.
