just found this website,couple of questions,i have just got mayland 16foot and a 8hp johnson longshaft also an old 25hp johnson longshaft i was wondering if i need a shortshaft instead ,the 8 seems to be bit slow ,25 a bit better,the measurements of my transom is from top to bottom about 15 inch,the keel which is set back under boat is another 6inch but do i include this or not,instead of buying a shortshaft can i build the transom up say 4 inch this will mean it goes straight across instead of stepping down as it does,sorry if this sounds stupid hope someone can help thanks
