i was talking to my uncle one time and recommend a very high pitch prop for ideling from Detroit to Niagra Falls. I just to now if you could go to high of a pitch with a putt putt prop. I was thinking about a SS 28 pitch.

Nope,... It don't work that way,...

At Best, the boat would be inoperable,..
At Worst,...
You get a few miles before the motor detonated big holes through the tops of the pistons...

How would this be any different then trolling for walleyes?

This prop would only be used at low RPM's. My 15 1/4 x 17 SS would be used for tubing and anything else.

If your just ideling and don't put a big load on the engine, I don't understand the bad idea comment.

Ok, let me ask the question this way. LOL

What SS prop was designed to perform efficiently at low RPM's for a pocket cruiser?

Another way to look at it...

Take a car with a manual transmission, place it into over drive (5th or 6th gear) then drive around at 5 mph...

No need to change what you have... use it for the putt putt. If you feel you must change props, go to a 4-blade for better stability at very low speeds. Else, save your money and engine.

Ayuh,... I'd think a large diameter elephant eared prop...
probably 3 or 4 blades...

Re: Long Range Putt Putt prop

Instead of spending 3 or 400 on a prop get a flow meter and figure the most efficient displacement speed. While most props are not intended to be most efficient at low rpm/speed.An excessive pitch
prop might end up reqiring more throttle for the same speed. You need a displacement type hull
like sail boat to be most efficient at displacement speeds.A planing hull might run at a couple of mph less than a displacement hull to be most efficient speed.
For instance a 28 might reduce your idle speed beyond normal and would require more throttle to get the idle up and then be moving at speeds beyond that most efficient for the hull.

SumpterMI, you might get a more accurate answer to your question on another boat board since this is more of a performance question. IM me and I'll give you that web address if you are interested.
