Long shaft??

I have a 1983 Johnson 35 hp (J35RCTS) Seems to be some confusion, on this end, as to if this is a long shaft or short. How long or short is it and how do you tell? Thanks.

Measure from inside of bracket that sits on transom to AV plate. Short ~ 15", Long ~ 20".

the model number says it started life as a short shaft.

The dimensions from inside the clamp bracket to the AV plate will probably be a bit more than the 15"/20" quoted. ( perhaps as much as 17" and 22" )

If it has been extended to a long shaft model the extra 5" extension piece between the gear case and the "leg" will be obvious. Hardly necessary to mess about measuring it
