Trailer restoration is done, so here she is, parked for the winter, until I get the boat done! but there is something seriously wrong with this picture (besides no jack,,,its out of stock right now)

Don't see whats wrong? perhaps a closer look....

Why is the cord that long to begin with? Well, because my truck has built in plugs, both 4 and 7 pin, so stock trailer cords are not long enough to reach, I had to splice my ground because what they leave you in the kit was half as long as I needed.

So I truly hate leaving my cords lying on the ground like that...so I cam up with a little Idea to redneck my way out of it

and there it is neatly stowed

could be a nifty trick if anyone else has this problem.

great idea. I have a dozen light plugs lying around so I am going to copy you.

Keeps them off the street, out from under the jack and out of the salt water.

One word of caution: check behind your helper if he hooks up the lights for you!

Thanks for the caution, but after 1.5 million miles behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer, I don't trust anyone to hook or unhook my trailer for me lol. Seen so may things go wrong due to laziness. Glad someone found this idea useful too. The longer I have looked at it though, I am pretty sure I will be moving it down to a lower spot...maybe inside the trailer rail, so its not such an eyesore.

pretty spiffy..... while you're at it, I have an "uptown redneck" trick for you... Ditch that scotch lock connector for a heat shrink butt connector.... you crimp em on and then heat em... they are lined with hot melt glue so when they shrink the seal too.... you'll LOVE em

AS smoke posted.
scotch locks will only lead to light failure down the road.

NM..I am half asleep...you were talking about what I used to splice my ground wire...yeah I plan to replace that.....It was just what I had on hand at the time to get lighting going, thanks for the info

IMO .. solder the ends of the trailer wires and put your 7 pin on the end for your vehicle connection ( bag the 4 pin thing ).

YD.

yeah, I would run it inside the railing and solder the wires together. Then just use heat shrink tubing on the lines. I have never had any wires fail that way.

You can get the heat shrink butt connectors (marine....with the glue in them) at Harbor frieght or Northern tools too.......for way cheaper than Homey Depot or Lowes.

Glad to help :D
Academy has an amazing selection of boat, trailer, fishing gear. Plus they are open late. Prices are often better than even Walmart.

Is that a local store? Do they have any in or near Kentucky? And I will note I am an hour away from Nashville, TN
