Hi. The 1991 18' bass buggy came with a trailer that looks like it is meant for a 16 footer the bunk boards are 11 1/2' long with three brackets that hold the boards, and boards that are too short to support the last two feet of the boat. . I made up new boards that are 14' long-- one more foot in front and one and a half feet to the back. I made them all 2x6s in place of the 2x4s that were towards the inside- the outside ones were already 2x6. I just wondered if anybody else has used longer bunk boards on their pontoon trailer and if so did you have any problems--002.jpg001.jpg003.jpglike did you have to add more brackets to support the boards? I added some pictures of the way it is set up with the old boards. One of the front -one of the back- and one from the side. The only reason I added 1' to the front is for balance and so I could use the whole 14' boards.

Re: Longer Bunk Boards

P7230008.jpgI installed the longer bunk boards today and they look like they should support the weight of the back of the boat better now. The old carpet was worn towards the end where the weight of the back of the boat had been resting on it. Maybe the back of the boat bouncing on it caused the wear in this area. I plan on adding more support brackets under the boards now to make the whole set up a little stronger. By the time I am finished the trailer should look like it is made for the size of boat it is carrying. I have to figure out how to extend the frame back two more feet so that I can add some support under the last two feet of board now. I am thinking of clamping and bolting some angle iron to the end of the frame channel on both sides and installing support brackets to that.
