longshaft short shaft question

hi, guys I bought a 4hp 4 stroke merc for my 1995 starcraft 170, I bought it for emergency purposes only( just incase my main motor breaks down), problem is i think its a short shaft, i measured from the cavetaion plate to the inside of the mount and i only get about 18 inches, when i measure up to the head i get 20, am i screwed, what are my options other than the obvious?

It should work fine. You will never plane with that motor and as long as the water pick up is sucking up water you are fine.

The alternative is to mount a kicker bracket and mount it lower.
