This is the foot of a 1974 Johnson 6hp 6R74-C. I took these pics looking up from the bottom of the foot. As you can see there is a little right above the prop and in front of the intake screen. It looks man made but I dont know. Is it suppose to be there? There is always a little oil seeping out of it, not much but a little. Should I seal it? I dont know why its there. I have drained the gear oil and it looked fine with no water. Just plain black gear oil. No water. Thank You ... Fishermanms

I have an older 70 hp that has a couple of those holes that water comes out of when I flush it. Im guessing that they are suposed to be there. A little 2-cycle oil comes out of them while it is sitting. I say if it aint broke dont fix it!
hope that helps

It is a drain hole at the bottom of a cavity. Water would just lay in there if not drained out. And possibly freeze in winter.

The oil you see is oil that you have mixed with the gas. It has gone through the engine and done it's job.

Don't fix it. That's the way it is intended to be.

Thank you so much.... I just didn't know what tha heck it was there for and it was bugging tha heck outa me.. Glad I can stop worrying about it. I just keep discovering little things like that and the only way I'm gonna know something I don't know is to ask somebody that does.... Appreciate it... Fishermanms
