the hose will say right on it...alcohol resistant ,and as a side note you can buy gas at stations that dont use ethanol but as fuel hauler i can tell you that when brand x runs out of there fuel they buy from the other guy until there bulk plants are refilled so you really cant avoid it 100%.
I have a buddy that hauls fuel and he just laughs at the signs on the stations. Same truck, same load, different stations.

Re: Look what i found in my fuel line.

I just replaced a hose and primer bulb and the hose was the same as the one in question. Inside the hose, is a very thin inner lining, kind of brownish clear. There is no reinforcing cord in it at all. Just the inner lining and then gray outer hose. I could see how the inner lining could fail, but the hose I changed had none of the debris as shown in the photos. I'll see if I can get a cross section picture of the hose I changed.

Yep, I cut into an old Quicksilver I had replace and it was as you describe. I guess I'll succomb to this being a valid thread and not a hoax.

That's a lot of stuff to accumulate in a fuel line that' sstill intact. How long is the line-6 feet? I'm thinking something was in the fuel tank--let over from the boat building, fell in from a jug when filling, or even a load of bad gas from the pump. If you fill at a dockside marina, could have gotten in the lines when they built/repaired it, as they often have long runs from the tank on shore. If it were just the line over time, the problem would have shown up before in smaller doses, in the filters. IOW if you buy your fuel from one place, go elsewhere.
That being said, ethanol does ugly things.

Also I think this one should be posted in a more general topic; it' stoo important and likely not to be mercury/mariner specific.

Are you seriously thinking this is a hoax? I am simply posting information of a problem I had and what I saw. Apparently the local Mercury machanic new what this was right away when I thought it was cool and unusual.

I believe that this is a liner of some sort as some has suggested in this thread. Here is what i did to trouble shoot this. Upon throttling up my engine will just die. So of course trouble shooting this means looking at the fuel supply. I took off my fuel/water seperator emptied it and saw peices of crap in there. Took off fuel filter on outboard poured out the gas and saw peices of crap in there. I then proceeded to remove fuel pump and change the inside and saw crap in there. I thought problem was solved but when I went back on the water same issue happened, engine died upon throttle.
Only thing left was fuel line. I took off fuel line blow compressed air through it and lots of crap came out. The fuel line however before my water/fuel seperator did not freely blow the air out. After feeling it with my hand I found the blockage. Cut it open and walla, hence the pictures.
I since replaced the hose with the quicksilver grey house that is supposed to be OK for Ethanol.
A hoax this is NOT, many hours of headache YES.

I hope this helps someone out there as many posts on this site has helped me.

buy the new type fuel line from the auto parts store for the fuel injected pumps, it's pricey, about $4/ft. but has a inside blue liner immune to alcohol and all types of fuel. Good stuff!:)

any explanation how the junk got through 2 filters--do you think each segment of the line broke down?

I replaced my fuel line and primer ball and still continued to have fuel starving issue, I did not cut the hose open to look but I did find my fuel pump clogged up with this same stuff as pictured here, about a half a hand full was packed in it and was blocking the out port of the fuel pump and also in fuel filter
Tank and pick up tube screen was clean
