scanman you have touched on 2 of the top 3 airframes I love most, in order too, care to try for the 3rd? It's a whole lot faster!!
I had a friend that got me a few hours in the A-10 simulator at Davis Monthan several years ago.
I had never flown a fixed-wing, but after a couple hours of being talked through speeds, flaps, and such..., I was doing take offs and landings.
The instructor told me that another seven hours and I would get a plane if I was a Air Force pilot. :D

Our Missouri place is underneath a training route. It's great to hear the sounds of those turbofans a few hundred feet above the trees.

Ahh...the memories come flooding back.

You retire or do your commitment and bail?

I'm in for the long haul! Retiring at 40, hopefully for real if my savings plans work out!

I retired with 22 years (and 29 days) about two years ago.

Re: Look What I got to do today!

That's awesome, congratulations!

I plan on retiring at 21-22 years as well so I can grab W-4 before I get out. I may even want to come back here and be an instructor when I'm done. We will see where life takes me though.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do now? I always love to hear what kind of jobs guys get when they get out.

I was an infantry guy in the 82nd for 5 1/2 years, been at Rucker now for almost 2.

P.S. I love the Starcraft Auroras! My next boat will be a deck boat if I'm still located near a lake wherever I end up. Hurricane and Aurora's are my favorites.

I've been splitting my time between Texas and Missouri.
I'll probably have to find the next career at one of the two places.

And the Starcraft came with the Missouri house. It wouldn't
be my first choice for a LOTO boat, but we've made it work.
It has been fun!

Pretty cool, I found both my TH-55 and UH-1 Operator Manuals the other day.
They are like brochures compared to a Longbow -10.

Lipp, I wouldn't even have a guess! I'm not really familiar with any of these aircraft. I knida got involved with the Heuys by workin for my buddy at the G.I. Museum. I was actually a Navy Sonar Tech, just like "Jonsey" in "The Hunt for Red October". The vids were really cool, thanks for the links!

Well let me tell you something!! I never served in the Military something about a head injury and the military didn't work so while you may have been only a Sonar Tech I still have to thank you for your service and I do it proudly and humbly!!

But here is my number 3 favorite airframe of all time, 2 bazillion times faster then the speed of smell!!

It truly was my pleasure to serve, but thank you! Here's the vid made by the pilot's own cameraman, from inside the bird. It just came in my e-mail:

That SR-71 was bad too! That was fun to watch!

16:56; An Apache just flew over my house! Thanks to ya'll I recognized it! It was painted haze grey, so I'm sure it's headed for Ingalls shipyard. We actually had 2 sonic booms this week! I don't know what caused 'em, though.

I haven't seen the Apaches here at Ft. Carson in quite awhile I wonder of they are in Afghanistan...but on the other side of the building I got to see a pair of F-18 super Hornets last week!!

I love our building, backs up to one of the runways at Peterson AFB!!

Must be nice to have a daily air show! Just livin between the shipyard & Keesler AFB, we never know WHAT will fly over next! Most of the time, we wouldn't recognize 'em anyway, but I did notice the Apache today. I came inside & pulled up vids for the ole lady so she'd know what I was so excited about, LOL!

Re: Look What I got to do today!

I can remember the last time I saw the F-4's fly at Davis Monthan, they switched to the A-10's. My dad snuck me into DM and I caught a glimpse of the SR-71 taking off around midnight flames coming out the back and all, Number 4 on my list is the F-4 Phantom, my dad used to say that the F-4 was proof that even a rock will fly with a big enough jet engine, I've heard that so many times now I know he stole the saying!

In my younger days I climbed communications towers(I still do sometimes now but I am too old for that crap!) I was on the White Tank Mountains outside Phoenix (West of Luke AFB) on a 250' tower and got buzzed by a couple F-15's that had to be just sub sonic, I never heard them coming and I about jumped off the tower, they came back and gave me a wing tip, probably within 100' of me, I felt like I could reach out and touch them!

Me and my boss had a job at the Gila River Gunnery range on a cold day(that means noone had live ammo it was over 100 degrees F!!) on our way back it was late and we were looking into the sun, miles upon miles of dirt road when the sun faded briefly, my boss asked me what was that? well I was trying to get some sleep so I missed it, we kept going and then it faded again and I saw it that time so I was like WTF? so my boss stops and we got out to have a better look, no sooner we get the doors open and start to step out and an A-10 flares (pulls up) right on us! really close too! I hit the dirt my boss hits the cactus(looked like dirt I guess)!! so we pick ourselves up and head into range control to check out and the Officer on duty met us at the door with a message from the hog pilot's sincerest apologies for scaring us, he thought we were a building he decided to target and then realized too late that well we were not! My boss said apology accepted.. do you have anything to remove cactus from someones face?
