Re: Looking at a 1987 24ft bow rider this afternoon...

I've been getting mixed opinions. From what I'm finding, in my area, used boats are fairly expensive. And to be honest, I am not falling in love with every boat I look at. I've asked about two boats, the Sea Ray and the Mariah. The Sea Ray is out. Can you believe the owner never called me back when I said I had just a few questions. Whatever.

Anyway, I've been reading on the Mariah forums and even posted the link and got opinions. Most said that was a good price, one said $7000 with trailer.

The deal I have worked out is $8000 with trailer, $7500 without. That is assuming that everything checks out. But again, this marina knows the history. They have been servicing this boat since new. That's worth a lot to me. They are even going to provide me with service records going back as far as they can.

Maybe I'm paying too much, but then again, I'm not so sure. I am now a Mariah lover. The bells and whistles are amazing. Plus, it's a fast boat, very smooth riding, and to me, it looks great. Has some great lines.

Anyway, I'm not defending myself, or maybe I am. Reading RiverKeg's post makes me think I am paying too much.

The only real problem I'm having is finding a trailer for a good price. The best I've found is a single axle with brakes for $1400. That means I'll have nearly $9000 into boat and trailer. That's too much.

I just can't believe how difficult it is to find trailers around here!

The trailer the marina owner found for you sounds great. Tandem axle with surge brakes and mag. wheels. If the tires will last a season without issues, and it has a spare, you're getting a really good deal at 500 deer. Everything sounds great; but I would still hire a surveyer for a sea-trial. Assuming the marina owner is an honest man, he won't be insulted; and you may want to continue using his services.

Good luck, keep us posted, and post some pics when you bring her home!!!

Hope you find a good trailer... Those bigger boats need a tandem axles.. Brakes a must.. If you can score that trailer for $500 extra that sounds sweet to me..

If it falls through, I'm considering driving about 3 hours away to a guy who has trailers that need work, but are cheap. They are road worthy though, new tires, and working lights, but may need brake work.

I have a 3/4 ton Powerstroke with an exhaust brake, so if I have to temporarily pull the boat with no trailer brakes, it will not be unsafe.

Like I said, we agreed on $7500 with no trailer. The reason I'd be OK with it is because the marina said they will completely go through the entire boat, which I wouldn't get with a private seller. And they will let me be there while they look at it, so I can look also and make sure I'm happy with what I see.

I was hoping to pick this boat up this week, but it's going to be really cold, a few nights in the teens, with highs in the 20's with snow. I was hoping winter was over, I guess not. I think I'll give them a deposit, then wait for the following week when it warms up to de-winterize it, do the checks, and test drive it.

I will say, I have been looking at boats for sale like crazy, and I haven't found anything that I like as much as this.

I really do appreciate all the help. I'll keep you posted.
