Well my wife and I have decided to upgrade from our 18ft Sylvan mighty mite pontoon and get another ski boat. Were looking at a 2005 19' Tahoe q4 with a 190hp 4.3. There isn't a single chip in the hull and a very small one in the lower unit. I'm guessing around 100hrs or so. There is some staining in the carpet from a bad cover but the floor is solid and all the seats are spotless. It looks like it has spent most of its live on the trailer. He's asking $12500 for it. With the end of the boating season around the corner what should I offer him?

Welcome to iboats!

The asking price is probably in the ballpark as long as it's as good as it sounds. But always offer lower. Starting at $10k might be worth a shot.

That's what I was thinking. He's selling in on consignment and I don't think they want to pay for storage over the winter and to have it winterized. I guess now I need to get my pontoon ready to sell or just store it this winter and sell it this spring.

The one thing that makes me nervous is that I can't test the boat out since its on consignment. I don't want to drop 11 grand and have a serious issue to fix. And I've been looking for awhile and can't find a newer ski boat with a 4.3 for this price any where close.

I bought my last boat at a consignment dealer and a water test was not a problem. Why are they telling you that is a problem ?

I didn't push to hard on a test since I'm waiting till after the holiday to make my offer. He said he would fire it up outside so he could prove it runs and I wouldn't have any issues. I've heard that before. I guess when I make my offer I will have to say no water test no deal. The shop owner is a nice guy and is real honest and straight forward so I shouldn't have any problems.

When looking at the boat again I noticed a small sticker that said certified for salt water use. Is there anything that I should look for. I forgot to ask him if it was used in salt water. My wife really likes this boat and so far we having been able to find much in this price range that's not really old or to small.
