Looking at a new boat

So I need a trailer for my 78 starcraft v5... And I found a boat I might want. It's a 78 Sea Ray v-220 with a hard-top. The out drive is diconnected from the boat as the outdrive joint was broken. Also the interior needs some work, but the trailer is in great condition!!
Anyway, the guy wants $3500. Way too much, I did the research and low retail is $1900(ish). If I offer him $1500, is that a fair offer? I don't really know much more about the boat, and haven't heard the motor run, and it needs a new rubber boot for around the out drive.

Thanks,
Dave

p.s. BTW, if anyone has a trailer for a 22ft boat they want to part with, let me know!

Sounds WAY overpriced to me. A 33-year-old boat with a rough interior and what sounds like a busted OMC stringer drive for $3500???

If it's a Starcraft V5 aluminum hull I'd stick with that, they are great boats and have a very deep V.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm sticking with the Starcraft. Just need to replace a few rivets and get a new trailer.

There are two other restoration projects on V5 Starcraft hulls, one is a 22' Supersport OB model and the other is a 22' I/O.

The Starcraft forum on this site is quite active, and we'd love to see the boat. Start up a thread and post some photos.:)
