I have both a tinny and this boat. Both work good but the Nitro has been something I always wanted, and something you can pull up to the sand bar and not feel like a turd floating around with the cruisers. I wont take it some spots that I will take the tinny though. There is a big dam I fish that goes from 25ft to 1ft very quick. Its all rock and very sharp. I basically beach the aluminum boat in the shallow and fish the hole. Works great but would destroy the Nitro.

I dont know if you guys follow all the sections here, but the Nitro had a bad stator. I spent some money(more than I needed) but I also learned a lot fixing it myself. Thanks for the help iboats!

So It was my Birthday on the 8th and my GF bought me a Lowrance Elite-5 DSI. Gonna be a long winter, waiting to use it.

If you want to save some cash on one, they are on sale for $320 at Cabelas. Order online and its free shipping and no tax. Plus you can pick it up at the store if you have one close by.

Spring seems so far away, might have to set it up in my fish tank just to check it out. lol

You are a very lucky man! I wish We had the coin for the 7 and the money to make a trip down south. I hear the muskie are biting good down in KY where its still warm enough to fish down there.

This summer I bought one of those as a backup gps because the price was cheaper than a stand alone gps unit,.........

And a buddy of mine did the same on his tourney walleye rig,...

We were both surprised at how much we liked the dsi part,........

And as a bonus the pre-loaded maps are pretty accurate for where we fish,....

I'll help you out there AC, send me the Elite 5 DSI, I'll hook it up, then go out and catch some fish to make sure it works for ya' Of course, I'll send you pics of all the fish caught... :watermelon:

How good were the maps on the Elite-5 DSI? I bought a Humminbird 581 and the stock GPS maps were pretty much non-existent, just an outline of the lake, had to buy a Navionics card to get good maps.

In the waters we fish the stock Lowrance map's are very good,............

I'm talking northern WI and the Bay of Green Bay,............

From what Ive been able to read the pre programmed lakes are very nice with 1' contours and just as good as navionics. Actually one guy said he was pissed he bought navionics premium because the ones that were pre programmed were better. Platinum is about the same but the pre programmed lakes do not have 3D. Also almost every body I fish at is already on the Elite-5 DSI.

Boat is cleaned and almost ready to go! Been a long winter!! Also added some trolling mounts and installed the Elite 5. Looks pretty cool, Ill take some pics tomorrow.

Thanks its killing me that its 70+ today and I have family stuff to do for Easter. Not that thats a bad thing since I love being with them but it also means I wont have another chance to get out until at least next Friday.

AC I feel your pain. At least I've gotten it out of the garage and been able to clean the winter off.

Heard there is a small bite going on in the river north of the chain. But then I've also heard the water was almost at flood stage the beginning of the week.

Really a nice unit you have there, the one sitting to the side appears that it would get "bumped" if the dock came close. Maybe it's the angle but water and what not might get er a bit wet too if that's the new home for it. The one in the middle looks great, being right in front will allow you to stay focused driving and checking the unit. Either way I'm jealous!!

The old one on the side swivels and is quick detach, makes it perfect for flipping it around so when you are on the front deck you can see whats going on. I remove it overnight and flip it to the side when docked. Havent had any issues with it getting wet or banging into the dock. I wanted to move it up to the front but decided to not drill anymore holes and have to patch the ugly old ones up.

Im really liking the placement of the new unit. Really works great and will make using the GPS much easier to focus on while still being able to look at where Im going. I just hope it works as good as the previews make it look.

AC, the wife and kids pitched in and got me an Elite5 for my birthday.
Someone also posted that there is a downloadable upgrade available already for it. Not sure just what it upgrades as I really haven't looked yet.

Nice! Seems they are the perfect b-day gift!
Ill have to look into the update. I wonder what you download it to? Didnt come with a usb or chip?
Lakes still frozen up by you? Ice has been gone for a few weeks here but Ive only done some shore fishing.
