I have a '71 Evinrude 50 hp and it came with a newer set of carbs on it and I can not find a year or a rebuild kit for them.

I am looking for a stock set of carbs for it. Any help would be appreciated.

Look at the top of the page in the "Top Secret File" stickey, there is a list of salvage yards there, maybe one of them can help you out.
Why don't you take some time and look through the parts books and match your carbs, I think they changed in the later 70's.

Thanks for the slavage yards... I have found that in 79 and 81 the carbs look identical but the parts numbers on my carbs dont match anything.

The numbers on your carbs are most likely casting numbers, not part numbers. Casting numbers don't really cross reference to anything.

tx1961whaler is correct, the numbers on the carbs are of no use in ordering parts, use the carb kits for the ones that match what you have.

Thanks guys. I have opened the carbs and inspected them. They look freshly rebuilt. So they have 3 jets and they are all fixed. No way to adjust it at all?

Nope, if all the jets are fixed, there is no adjustments. Some of the internal passages are really small and plug up easy. If you have then apart you might want to blow air pressure through all the passages.

I did that and tested the float valve. Everything looks brand new. It runs, Idles a little rough, very slow accelleration and could not reach full RPM's. It only pushed a 16 ft aluminum flat bottom 16 mph.Could there be a chance that these carbs are not set right for my motor?

Have you checked the compression and spark?
Should have 100+ across the cylinders, but most importantly they should be even.
The spark should be able to jump a 7/16" gap using a spark tester.

It has good spark, I don't have a compression tester but both cylinders seem even and good compression with the thumb tester. :)

The motor is hard starting cold and floods easily. After it has warmed up it starts easily.

What spark plugs are you running in it?

The book calls for UL-77V, I have QL-77JC4 installed and thats how I bought it.

I don't know too much about spark plugs, but I researched the numbers and it seems that the ones I have in my motor should be better for it.
