looking to upgrade my 4.3 from a 2bbl to 4bll . Any thoughts on where to get them at a descent price i didn;t see anything on ebay

Depends on what you considder a decent price. The Edelbrock carbs are about the easiest to set up, and if you want a realy hot V6, upgrade the cam also. Or you can swap on a set of vortec heads if you don't already have them.

I can put vortec heads on my older motor? would i need to do anything else

Yes, the Vortec heads are an easy swap onto an older motor, and they are worth 25-30hp on a 4.3 with no other mods.
You will need to change 3 things though. Valve covers, spark plugs and the intake manifold. But, if you are replacing the manifold anyway, now is a good time to do the heads.

The plugs for the vortec heads have a longer reach(.708 vs .460)

jimmyhat - if you use an Edelbrock 1409 carb with calibration kit 1485(Edelbrock sugested) along with a performer manifold and vortec heads, this should put you in the 230-250hp range depending on cam selection. Of course 230 is a huge jump from your current 160, so you may not want to risk your motor(water injestion) searching for a cam to get that last 20 or so hp.

I have a high rise cast 4 bbl intake for the 4.3 - pre vortec, but no carb.
I'd trade it for a low rise with the spring type choke coil...

google "summit racing" and give the tech division a call. they have alot of marine parts that are not in the catalog.

they helped set me up with mallory electronic ignition...etc. nice people.
