Like the title says, I'm looking for a 4-cylinder cap replacement, less expensive than the Penta or Mallory for my AQ135/automobile engine. Seems boat caps are around $40 and cars are $4.
I've found ignitions points from a car and a condenser that fit with some modification (and engine runs good).
But I can't find a cap which screws down for cheap.
Bosch distributer.

I understand the need to keep this a "marine" distributor, has anyone else found a car part that interchanges?

I don't think I can re-use mine with new plug wires because they are corrodded into the cap and will most likely break when pulling them out.

Thanks for any info.

Sorry not true. Went to Auto Zone web site and looked up caps for Volvos. Found several screw down. Local store not in stock so they ordered them for me. 2 came in and are too big. The 3rd is still in shipping but it is the same orange color as mine for my AQ131D. Price is $6.99

You may have been right, I typed in Volvo but it showed me all caps they sell. However if auto zone is willing to keep bringing them in I'll keep seeing if one fits. the 3rd on was just a hair small.

I also bought a screw down type from a picture on the Internet.
No dice. It had a smaller diameter and was soft thin plastic.
Screws were OK, I saved them.;)

You're more likely to find one that fits if you order by distributor number or part number.

Exactly. I was able to find the much cheaper automotive equivalent cap for my AQ130C's distributor by using the distributor's part number in my web search.

Find the distributor number or try a Beck/Arnley cap.

The 130 dist is basically a bosch 009, available almost anywhere.

Perhaps...
Mine is the 019 version.
I'm thinking the 009 is the clip (vs screw) version.
I'll be stopping into the auto parts store again soon;)
If the base and internal dimensions match, I can easily make some adaptor-screw-clip.

By the way, my ebay exhaust manifold arrived today woo-hoo!
Labor day the bilge pump barely kept up with the raw water leaks, that's exciting:eek:

oops, got off topic

You guys know that a rotor has to spin around inside them too, right?

Some people's kids, I swear....

The higher quality caps have brass contacts and extra webbing inside to deter crossfiring from carbon tracking along the inside of the cap. The least expensive caps have aluminum contacts and are totally flat on the inside giving the shortest distance along the inside of the cap almost inviting crossfiring after the aluminum dust begins building up. Also, always get cap and rotor as a matched set.
