I am looking for a bass boat to fish on my lake with, to hold about 3 people, something that you can also row, but something that has the nice swivel seats and a livewell. I already have an electric motor I can put on the boat, but my lake is mainly very weedy so I need a boat I can row through the weeds. Anybody have any recommendations?

I am looking to spend around 2K.

Thanks

A nice wide jon boat sounds like the ticket....

yeah well I am looking for specific brands, boats, etc... most jon boats seem to have just the flat seats, not the swivel seats..

also a lot of the jon boats I saw don't seem to have a place for oars..

New,use the red search function at the top of this page search '1960 Lonestar', under the 'boating restoration' forum. it's a 14' tinny that i did for myself. it was and old boat i found in a field, cleaned it up, seats off ebay, motor off ebay. this will give you and idea of what you can do to an old boat, for very little money.

I'm not so sure you'll get 3 people in that one - 2 would be tight. With some flexibility you could make a lot of different boats meet your requirements. If you need a rowboat it will have to be relatively narrow - most likely a typical aluminum rowboat. Keep in mind that you can add the seats you want to nearly any kind of boat so don't let that limit your choices. Also keep in mind that a chest cooler with ice and water makes a good livewell and you can move it from place to place or leave it out when you don't need it.

The tracker model gonefishie posted would be a very good option - but you're right about it being difficult to row. They market that boat in a number of configurations, one called the crappie pro or something like that. It uses stick steering system so you can operate it from the front seat for better control and performance yet the steering mechanism isn't in the way for fishing like a steering wheel and console is. The center bench is a cooler / livewell with a padded top. You could buy one used within your budget - not much more than the one at sports authority - and get a lot better features, longevity, and durability - plus it's a real boat with an outboard and probably a trolling motor and depthfinder / fishfinder.

Would a trolling motor get you through the weeds? Some of the new ones are virtually weedless. Maybe buy a boat like this and put a new trolling motor on it?

All said and done you'll have a boat that works on the lake you have in mind but would also work elsewhere. Check ebay searching under "tracker crappie" and you'll find a bunch I bet.
