You can buy a 12v air compressor for 10-15 bucks, but you cant find a 110v for less than 50.

All I want is to be able to pump up tires and basketballs.

It would be cheaper to buy a 12v pump with a car battery.

Ken

I agree. For your use it sounds like a hand pump would work fine. Wouldn't take more than a few strokes to fill up a basketball. All of the cheap 12v compressors are COMPLETE CRAP. If you actually find a cheap 110v version it would be the same way. I had one blow up while I had 3 flat tires 30 miles down a deserted gravel road with no cell phone reception. Wish I had a manual pump...

Sure, if you are willing to take 20 minutes to air one tire. 12V compressors are not high volume and as far as I am concerned they are for emergency use only. You can air a tire faster with a hand pump. That's even cheaper than the 12v compressor.

One option is to take an air brake compressor off an old truck from the junk yard and find yourself a 1/3-1/2 hp elect motor to drive it and a valve to releave the pressure from the hose when the motor is running but your not filling anything. One like that is all my dad ever had and I still use it every now and then.

Portable air tanks come in different sizes and prices from about 19 to 80 bones Only problem is your have to fill them at a gas station or other air supply Did you look at e-bay for a cheap compressor

The round "pancake" compressors are great for the money ($125-$175). Portable, powerful and versatile...they can be used for lots of things including pneumatic tools, small nailers and spray painting. Take care of it and it will last forever.

Re: Looking for a cheapo 110v air pump

Searched ebay, didnt find anything. Surprisingly! I thought it would be there, but all they have is the 12v. Sharper Image sells them for 50 bucks.

I have never had any problems with the cheapo 12v air pumps. I use them all the time, but get tired of digging it out of the truck, etc, etc.

A decent hand pump can be pretty costly. I have problems with the cheap hand pumps the seals are trash. Plus that sounds like a lot of work for this fat boy.

I am now looking at an RV converter to convert 110v to 12v with enough amps. My 6 amp battery charger makes the 12v pump run too slow. There are some used converters for 10 bucks on ebay.

***Get er done***

Ken

I once used a 12 volt compressor to pump up a bicycle tire. Took forever and wished I had a manual pump--it would have been faster. You can get a 110 volt compressor from Sears for about $120-$200, or less than $100 from Harbor Freight. A lot more money, but then you can use air tools and actually maintain auto tire pressures regularly as well as bicycle tires and inflate toys. Don't waste your money on a 12 volt compressor.

I got one of those Huskys too DJ. I especially like the blow gun tip. I occasionally bring it inside fully charged to terrorize the family for a few minutes.

All I gotta do is walk towards my air compressor and the cat is nowhere to be found for hours... :D
