Looking for a good gps

Hey guys,

wondering if you guys could recommend a good gps for me. it would be nice to have it color, be able to track my route so i don't get lost, speed, and depth. those are the main things that I would like to have. If i can not get depth than I would have to figure something else out but if I can i'll take it. i'm trying to stay under the $500 range. also this boat will only be used on inland lakes, aka only in wisconsin and upper michigan. any help is appreciated. I use the gpsmap498 (but it's discontinued now) and I have no complaints. Just check out the website to make sure your lake is included in the preloaded maps (I'm sure it is, but double-check).

They might sell this at iboats...check before you look anywhere else

Best bang for the buck right now in the GPS world are the delorme P-40.

They will be supporting marine charts soon. I have a P-20 and love it. I also love that they have a great forum with rep support that is untouched by their competitors. They really listen to their consumers. This is another reason why I have a Delorme now. They also beat everyone else's price per unit too.

Lake chart map info. Long read but they are getting close. Some have already figured out how to make NOAA maps work on the units. Have to do some searching.

I love my Garmin 276c chartplotter. It has an internal battery so I can use it in the car (with City Nav 2009) or wherever. I can sync it with my PC and upload/download waypoints, new maps, tracks etc. It even works with my VHF and the DSC feature which is really a nice feeling when I'm out in the North West Pacific...

I bought this chartplotter about 5 years ago. West Marine ran a coupon for $350 and I had a trailerable cover to trade in from a fathersday gift. Best money I never spent! It's repeatabiltiy is unbelievable and it has most of the features you mentioned.

Though the price indicates $799. if you click on the add to basket icon the price is $367. A pretty good bargain IMO.
