Looking for a used pontoon

I'd like the bare bones of a 'toon. I don't care about the furniture. What I want to do is turn it into a duck hunting platform / barge. What would be a typical price for good sponsons and frame? I've seen trailors for about a grand too is that about right for something decent? I'm looking at 24' - 28' ... is there anything bigger? I had a chance to buy 4 24' tubes and I've been kicking myself for a long time for not buying them.

How tough are the sponsons? Will they be easily damaged bumping into rip-rap at anchor?

In Michigan you shouldn't have any problem at all finding an old pontoon, look in the local paper or on Craigs list, as far as price it depends, don't let on that you are going to rip all the furniture off since nasty furniture could be a bargaining point.

As far as how tough the toons are I would say pretty, as far as bumping into things, they will dent but you would really have to whack something to punture them.

Most of the pontoons I've found semi-locally are fairly new and way more than I want to spend. I'd like to find something that has been sitting on a trailer for 10 years completely ignored. I have stopped and knocked on a couple doors but its wierd people don't want to get rid of these things.

Look at CraigsList for your area, and cities up to 2 hours away. BoatTrader.com is another great place. EBayMotors.com is another boat source.

But, the best place I've found for clunkers is Laniermarine.com--north of Atlanta. They have hundreds of boats on the lot, and might actually have something you're looking for. Prices are great, too. Their website is incredible reading.

I can still kick myself for not jumping on an Allison 17' runabout they sold for $300 last year.
