Hey just to help you out a bit check out www.wakeworld.com
At the top on the left hand side where it says equipment and reviews go there and you can check out all different brands of boards and bindings that explains all the features about them and people review them. It will probably help you out alot.
Another thing to consider is if you have a local shop that will let you demo boards so you can get the feel and see what you like the best to make your purchase also helps alot.

The price for that set up looks right. It is a beginner set up, but CWB makes some good boards. If you are looking for a decent cheap set up, that looks pretty good. When you get hooked, and you will, then you will know more what you are looking for in a board and can then find a suitable upgrade.
As for the ski's they are again a beginner set up, but HO has made ski's for many years and certainly dosn't produce any crappy equipment. Anything that gets you out on the water and is a price you are comfortable paying is all good.
Happy Riding!

Re: Looking for a wake board need advice

I picked up almost everything for my boat on Craigslist including the boat. I bought a tube, knee-board, and wake-board all on Craigslist for a fraction of retail. I paid $75 for the board which looked like new. The guy said his wife bought him a new $475 board but he said he doesn't notice any different ride than the one he was selling me. I spend about $120 on new CWB hinge bindings. I recommend these type of bindings since they are way easier to get your feet into and out of, especially if you are in the water.

I am not no expert by any means. My suggestion is that if you are to invest on a wakeboard or skis. Make sure you get the longest one you can find. Not only that it would make it easier for anyone to ride just the fact that you can grow into the toys. The longer it is the more weight it can handle. Not to say that you will gain weight but it would not make it harder for any of your friends to do as it would suit riders for all weights.

If this is the case, why aren't manufacturers all trending toward the longest board they can produce?

There's a LOT more to a board than the length. Ridability is NOT a function of length...

Actually, yes and no.

While length WILL make it easier for a beginner to "plane" on because of the surface area, it will hurt performance in the long run.

Manufacturers dont trend toward the longest board because once you are out of the beginner stage, size becomes important for doing tricks, and as well we need to look into rocker and rails.
