I would like to know what you think about putting vaseline all over everything below waterline?

What about using heavy-duty floorwax below waterline? There must be some cheap and effective way to keep the green stuff off! :p

That's one of many problems with keeping a boat in the water.....
I don't know of anything that will stop algea growth...it'll form inside an oil container in water....unfortunately I've seen this when walking the shores of my local lake picking up trash... :(

I’m thinking you probably don’t want to be sitting in your boat in the middle of an Vaseline oil slick when the tree huggers arrive. :)

hey, 18Rabbit, I was sort of wondering about that myself. it would be alright as long as you kept moving! Walleyehed I know too well what you mean about the garbage :( 30 shopping carts, 22 tires, 2 bikes, asstd. car parts, and all kinds of other crap came out of our stretch of river here this year. that is just what I fished out, hopefully others, like yourself, took the time to do some cleaning too. The good thing is that there are still fish and other wildlife making the best of it.

I also put my boat in in May and pull out in late September/early October.

My old surfmaster I used to spray all the algae off with hose and scrub it down. Every tow weeks I would scrub the sides of the boat while in the water.

This year I have a brand new boat. Every two weeks I would take a deck brush to the side of it. Got most of the green stuff off.

When I did pull it out, took me about 4 hours of scrubbing with a scrub pad to get it all clean.

Next year, I'm going to apply anti fouling bottom wax and I bought a pressure washer to get the algae off the boat.

Just remember to scrub it every YEAR. I see so many 5 and 6 year old boats with hulls stained so badly that the stains will never come off.

tx.

Joe.

P.S. What I wouldn't give to be scrubbing my boat right now..... It's 26 degrees outside and my water is frozen......

i really don't think anything works except anti-fouling paint. if your boat will remain in the water and the temp goes above 65, you're sure to have growth. i used a defective bottom paint (dolphinite) and the barnacles ate right through it. lots of wasted time and money. i now use interlux mircron csc and it works great. i wouldn't trust the waxes, unless you pull the boat every week or so, scrub it down, and apply new wax.

Heatzone, there are not really any shortcuts, the waxes most likely will work for awhile.
Over the past 2 or 3 years, dolphinite was the "rage" and all you heard on these sites. It really was not a short cut, just a new "rage". That now has turned into another type of rage as in anger at a defective product. All the $work$ and no joy.
Now we are hearing about the waxes again. Remember, any of this stuff must be applied to the bottom of the boat.
I would resist the application of antifouling paint to a power boat, it will change things; but this staining and fouling and pulling and cleaning every two weeks will change things too.
The value to you is a boat in the water. ready to go.
Interlux and Petit make good products. You will have to do some research to find the correct one and the best way for you to get it on your boat. This is not rocket science, but remember you will be working on the bottom of the boat. (If it is not applied correctly, it will peel off and the work gets worse.)
Good Luck!
